Llys Cadwyn - Commercial Buildung

The name of the Lyss Cadwyn project, also known as Chain Court, is intended to represent the strong and proud industrial heritage of Rhondda Cynon Taf and the famous Brown Lenox chain works, which were located in the center of Pontypridd during the industrial heyday of Wales.

The reopening of the riverfront with an attractive waterfront promenade significantly modernizes the area and brings major economic benefits to the town, not only thanks to the 14,700 m² of office space designed to accommodate over 1,000 people. The futuristic, grey, curved building, which houses a library, fitness facilities, a multifunctional space for rent and a café for visitors, is just part of the overall concept.

The futuristic building's striking curved walls were carefully constructed using a steel skeleton frame that was initially clad with precision-engineered laminated veneer lumber panels. Approximately 6,500 titanium zinc coulters from RHEINZINK in the surface quality prePATINA blue-grey were then installed on top of the wood cassettes of the façade. In choosing the material, the client and architect specifically went for a particularly natural material that plays into the concept of sustainability. This is further expressed in the use of solar panels, variable refrigerant flow air-source heat pumps, and one of the first hydrogen fuel cell CHP (combined heat and power) systems in Wales to generate heat and electricity.

"Llys Cadwyn is at the heart of Pontypridd's regeneration - bringing hundreds of jobs to the town, increasing footfall for existing businesses and breathing new life into a major strategic site that has not been in use for so long," said Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's cabinet member for enterprise.
