The Långbrodalsskolan in Stockholm - a school building that finds its expression in architecture alongside the claim of imparting education.

More than 100 years later, one of the oldest schools in Stockholm, the Långbrodalsskolan, was given an extension in 2017. At a fitting distance, the architectural firm Niras Arkitekter has created a modern gable-roofed building with a striking appearance: The roof and façade surfaces were clad with RHEINZINK titanium zinc prePATINA graphite-grey The restrained yet independent overall appearance of the vertical, differently wide elements in the double standing seam or angled standing seam system proves to be the ideal counterpart to the heavy construction of the old building in brick red.

Nowadays, the school has long since become a second home for young pupils. Instead of lining up classrooms, the architects take into account the special requirements and needs in 21st century school construction. Their architectural orientation creates spacious, bright rooms for meetings, events and retreats. Ecological, economic and social sustainability in the combination of materials, targeted use of space as well as a high quality of stay are at the centre of Långbrodalsskolan, alongside the imparting of education, and mark the important potentials in school construction today.
